Jenn Brosch Makeup Artist Q&A | Vendor Spotlight

Jenn Brosch is an AMAZING local makeup artist I had the opportunity of meeting on Jennie & Jason’s wedding day! I started my day just as Jennie was getting her makeup done and she looked absolutely flawless. Her beauty radiated throughout the entire day and I’m happy to feature Jenn Brosch on the blog in a vendor spotlight! Check out our Q&A below!

Tell us about yourself! How did you get started in the business?

I am currently a cruelty free makeup artist for Too Faced cosmetics soon to be Jr Acct Executive. I am also the makeup artist behind You Are Beauty (under construction) formerly Beauty + Baubles. Virtual grand opening of www.youarebeauty.today will be by 12/1/15.

I started my freelance artistry while working as the Personal Beauty Advisor at Sephora. I realized how much I enjoy spending time sharing skin health and beauty tips with clients. I had the opportunity of clients requesting me to do on location makeup for their weddings. After working my first wedding I knew it would become a business for me.

How do you find your inspiration?

I find general inspiration in self love, surrounding myself with positive vibes, finding the beauty in all things and my love for music. I seek beauty inspiration from my favorite makeup artists friends and current trends.

Why should a bride have professional make up applied for her big day?

Makeup is such a personal touch. Hiring a professional who will take the time to get to know you and listen to your wishes for your special day is priceless. A professional makeup artist will take the time to properly prep your skin, practice proper hygiene, and use the highest grade photo friendly products to ensure a comfortably long wear. An educated professional artist will not only create the most customized look for your special day but also share some tips during your makeup application.

What should brides look for when selecting the right makeup artist?

I strongly believe that good communication will help a client determine whether or not a particular artist is the right fit for them. Always schedule a trial with artists to be sure you vibe well together. No bride should ever have to experience a disconnect between themselves and their artist during the wedding day. If a makeup artist is requiring you to purchase all of your own products I suggest researching for any referrals they may have, and request before and after images.

What makes bridal makeup different from an everyday look, and how can it benefit any bride — including the ladies who prefer a more natural look?

Bridal makeup should always compliment their features in the most flattering ways possible while delivering a flawless, romantic finish. A professional artist will also be able to enhance eyes by placing all eye products according to their clients eye shape and selecting suitable false lashes for a finishing touch. In addition bridal makeup should definitely be photo ready, long wear and water resistant.

What can brides do to prep their skin before their wedding day to not only look amazing but to be healthy?

As a certified skin care expert I always ask my brides several questions about their skin to recommend the best products to use. Be sure to cleanse, treat and hydrate the skin daily both day and night. Exfoliating and detoxifying with a mask will is very important to incorporate into each skin care regimen and will allow other products ultimate efficacy. This provides a smoother and hydrated canvas for the wedding day. Also, don’t forget to treat the eye area. Eating healthy and drinking plenty of water or coconut water will also keep the skin looking great.

What is the most common mistake brides can make when it comes to their wedding makeup?

Not reserving an artist far enough out in advance or finding the right one for them can cause complications for the bride. I have received so many last minute requests that I needed to turn away because they waited too long to research makeup artists. I have also had brides where the initial makeup artist they booked backed out at the last minute. A signed contract between the makeup artist and bride will guarantee a secured artist for the wedding day.

What products should all brides have handy for touch-ups throughout big day?

Some makeup artists offer a touch up kit or extended hours rates. If brides prefer using their own products they own I recommend blotting papers, touch up powder, concealer, and a lip product.
