3 Tips for Better “Getting Ready” Wedding Photos | For Brides

3 Tips for Better Getting Ready Wedding Photos | Angie McPherson Photography

One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is when the bride is getting ready! She’s being loved and encouraged by those closest to her and the feeling of excitement radiates from the entire group. I love capturing these sweet moments at the start of the day and just a small amount of preparation can go a LONG way in the resulting images! So in today’s Tips for Brides post, I’m sharing 3 tips for better getting ready wedding photos!

1. Choose a spacious room with natural light

Natural light is more flattering, even and softer than fluorescent light.  Choose a room (or space) with windows to get dressed and it will make all the difference! I have even taken getting ready photos outside when we couldn’t find a room with a window. The images below are from Laura & Matt’s Two Rivers Country Club wedding and she got ready down the street in her parents bedroom!

2. Keep the room clean

Clear the clutter so the focus is on you and those special moments with loved ones. This can be a challenge if all the girls are getting ready in the same area as where you are putting your dress on but it’s not impossible! Move the hangers, bags, articles of clothing and other accessories into another space. We actually moved some chairs, side tables and couches around in this bedroom to get a nice clean shot!

3. Gather your details in one place to give to your photographer

I have an entire blog dedicated to the bridal detail checklist so this is a reminder! You will be doing yourself and your photographer a HUGE favor if you collect your rings, shoes, accessories, stationery, dress, etc. in one place at the start of the photography coverage. We can focus on photographing those special details while you are still getting your hair and makeup done and you won’t have to look for them again throughout the day. These details should be documented as they are such big part of your day!
